Indiana –Three freight trains were involved in an accident about 1:15 on Friday, causing non-life threatening injuries to two crew members.  One freight train rear-ended another which caused some of the cars to jackknife into a passing third train.  The accident occurred about 11 miles northeast of Valparaiso which is an agricultural section of the state.  Many people were evacuated with a one-mile perimeter because authorities thought ethanol may have been in some of the tanker cars.  This was not found to be the case.  One of the trains had …

65-year-old Dennis McKeever was killed when his vehicle was hit by a train around noon on Tuesday, October 11th.
McKeever was traveling north on county road 52 when he approached the train crossing and drove around the lowered crossing guards and was struck by the train.

(Reuters) – An Amtrak train partially derailed when it struck a crane that was razing an old grain elevator close to the tracks.  Seven of the estimated 178 passengers had neck and back injuries that sent them to the hospital and 4 others were treated for minor injuries.  There were no reports of life-threatening injuries.
The collision which occurred at about 8:50 a.m. local time near Benkelman, Nebraska, derailed two locomotives and three cars. Seven cars stayed on the tracks.

A 24-year-old man from Sunnyvale was struck and killed by a San Jose bound train at the Pal Alto Caltrain station around 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Caltrain spokeswoman, Christine Dunn, stated, “Preliminary investigation indicates that the person acted intentionally.”  Approximately 115 passengers were on the train.
“This is the fourth Caltrain fatality on the right of way this year,” Dunn said.
She also stated that VTA and SamTrans will honor Caltrain tickets for the passengers.

A union that represents Muni operators urged the San Francisco Municipal Transportation (SFMTA), which manages Muni, to make improvements and modifications to the yard’s aged trackway.  This urge occurred after five light rail vehicles derailed at the Green Division rail yard in less than a week.
No one was hurt in these derailments, but the Union is advising the Muni to take action to prevent potential injuries and damages.

Two teens were killed after they were hit by an LRT train just north of the Commonwealth Stadium station Tuesday night.
The northbound train struck a teenage boy and a teenage girl near a crossing at 82 Street and 113 Avenue at approximately 8:15 p.m., according to police spokesman Chad Orydzuk.
The two victims were among a group of about six youths who had been walking near the tracks at 82 Street and 114 Avenue.

A young man from Piedmont, CA was struck and killed by an Amtrak commuter train when he was trespassing on Union Pacific railroad tracks in Albany early this morning in the 500 block of Cleveland Avenue according to authorities.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau identified the man as Samuel Raushenbush, 20, and added that his death “appears to be an accident at this point.”
According to Union Pacific spokesman Aaron Hunt, the accident occurred about a quarter mile from the designated crossing at Central Avenue.
