Waterford TWP, Mich. -A shooting at a roller skating rink during a holiday party left five people injured.  The shooting occurred at the Rolladium about 45 minutes from Detroit.  The incident happened about 1:45 a.m.  right when people were leaving the party.  Witnesses said a fight broke out inside and right after that shooters came in from the outside and started firing and then ran back out.  The skating rink has a surveillance system, but it is not known how much was caught on tape.  Police are looking for the …

San Francisco, CA — Over sixty people were left without homes early Friday when a fire swept through a San Francisco apartment building.  It took 150 firefighters almost three hours to put out the five-alarm blaze.  Fortunately, only one firefighter suffered a burn to his neck and one civilian was treated for smoke inhalation.  The fire started in a three-story Victorian home and spread to the apartment building.  Winds made the fire spread more quickly and the buildings were made of wood and were attached to each other.  Fire officials …

San Clemente, CA –A man was injured as he was walking down a stairway to a San Clemente surfing beach on Monday afternoon.  The stairway was closed Tuesday until adequate repairs could be made.  The injured man was an off-duty firefighter from a different city.  One of the steps about midway down to San Clemente’s El Portal beach failed as the man was descending and he fell injuring his hip and hitting his head.  He was taken to the hospital.  The stairway was closed after lifeguards found that more slabs …

La Grange, TX -–A jury has awarded the family of Robbie Middleton the largest jury verdict in a personal injury case in U.S. history.  Robbie was burned over 99 percent of his body in 1998 when Donald Collins doused Robbie with gasoline and set him on fire.  Robbie was just 8 years old.  Robbie’s parents sued Donald Collins and the jury awarded them $150 billion in damages.  Collins never was prosecuted for the crime, but he is in jail on a different charge.  Robbie died this year from a rare …

Los Angeles, CA –Seven tractor trailer trucks collided on Monday evening on the Interstate 5 in the Newhall area north of Los Angeles.  Rainy weather may have been a factor in this chain reaction pileup.  A trucker traveling southbound at about 40 mph lost control of his truck, causing him to swerve and hit another truck.  That truck drove up an embankment and overturned.  Another truck braked hard which caused it to jackknife across the freeway lanes which caused even more collisions.  A total of seven trucks were involved.  Fortunately, …

San Diego, CA –A suspected drunken driver hit a Marine who had stopped along with two others to help a motorist who was stopped in a middle lane of the Interstate 805 in the Chollas View area.  The Marine was taken by paramedics to UCSD Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.  A woman who was driving the minivan that struck the Marine was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.  The accident occurred about 2 a.m.  in the morning on Tuesday.  If you have been in a car accident, get the …

Dallas, Texas –  A model was getting off a private plane in Dallas on Saturday when she accidentally walked into the propeller and was severely injured.  Lauren Scruggs, a model, fashion blogger, and former wardrobe assistant on the TV show Gossip Girl, had been on the flight with a friend to see an aerial view of the Christmas lights of Dallas.  When they landed it is believed that Scruggs, 23, went to thank the pilot when she was hit by the propeller and suffered severe head injuries and severed her …

San Diego, CA — A collision involving three vehicles injured four people on Sunday at about 10 a.m.  A Land Rover was heading eastbound on the Interstate 8 at about 80 to 90 mph when it struck a red car.  After that the Land Rover rear-ended a Lexus SUV, causing it to spin out and cross over the center divider of the freeway.  The SUV went over an embankment and fell about 150 feet.  The two adults and two children in the SUV were taken to the hospital.  The children …

Massachusetts — A diver of a U-Haul truck was driving through a parking lot at the tailgating area of the annual Yale-Harvard football game when he accelerated, ran over three women and crashed into other trucks that were parked.  One 30-year-old woman was killed and the other two were injured.  The woman who died was not a student at Yale or Harvard.  A second woman hit was a Yale School of Management student and was taken to the hospital.  The third woman had minor injuries.  The driver of the truck …
