A Sonoma-Marin Fair employee had his leg severed on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 according to a Mercury News Report. The accident occurred when the unidentified employee was working. He was standing on the tracks of a roller coaster when he was struck and he leg was severed on impact. As of Thursday the victim was listed in stable condition according to reports.
Cal/OSHA authorities and fair officials are now trying to determine how or why the injurious workplace accident occurred.

The maintenance worker who died Monday morning after being pulled into a wood chipper has been identified as Henry Lira.
60-year-old Lira had worked for the county since 1969. On Monday morning he was part of a four person crew clearing brush doing maintenance on Whiting Road near Paulsen road when the accident occurred, according to Sheriff’s Office reports. The accident occurred at 9:15 a.m.
Sgt. Bill Gazza of the county Sheriff’s Office said that “he got caught up in it and he’s deceased.” Lira died at the scene.

Two Georgia Tech students were seriously injured after a chemical explosion that happened behind a fraternity house early Wednesday morning.
Tommy Keen, a sophomore aerospace engineering student from Peachtree City, and Paul Grzybowski, a junior materials science student from Appling are being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for first- and second-degree burns to their upper bodies, said Georgia Tech spokeswoman Lisa Grovenstein.

Ted Koppel’s son was found dead early Monday morning in a Washington Heights apartment on Audobon Avenue. Police found Andrew Koppel unconscious around 1:30a.m. and they believe it was a “daylong drinking binge.”
The exact cause of the 40-year-old’s death has yet to be determined. Police officials are awaiting the autopsy results before citing a cause.
Reports state that Koppel began drinking at Smith’s Bar and Restaurant in Manhattan on Sunday afternoon. Koppel then met up with another man and continued to drink with him at several other bars around the area. …

A group of cyclists in Charlotte, NC, were cycling on May 19, 2010 along St. Stephen’s Church Road in Cabarrus County when they were struck by an automobile. Police have located and arrested the man responsible for hitting the pack of bicyclists.
According to Highway Patrol troopers, 24-year-old Daniel Burton Wilson II, is the man responsible for hitting the six cyclists. Wilson was reportedly headed in the opposite direction when he hit several of them.

An auto accident in southwest Houston, Texas injured to Houston Police Department officers. The accident occurred on Monday, May 10, 2010 at approximately 4:00 a.m., at the intersection of Westpark and Tanglewilde, according to reports.
According to reports, the patrol car with the two police officers was traveling westbound on Westpark when they collided with a SUV in the Tanglewilde intersection. An unidentified man, believed to be in his 20s, was attempting to catch foul balls, when he fell 14 feet from his lower level seats to the field below. The accident occurred on Sunday about and hour before the beginning of the baseball game at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin between the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs.

The body of James P. O’Brien, 47, was identified Wednesday by State Police. He had apparently drowned in the Hubbard Brook in Grandville State Forest. O’Brien was from Westfield.
According to State Police Lt. David Wilson, O’Brien was located in a remote area of the forest Tuesday afternoon.
O’Brien was a teacher at Roger L. Putnam Vocational Technical High School in Springfield.

The 13-year-old Taylor Storch died in a skiing accident at Beaver Creek Resort in Vail, Colo. Monday. Taylor Storch was the granddaughter of Bernie and Joan Taylor of Abilene. Officials declared Taylor brain dead after striking a tree while skiing Sunday on Beaver Creek Mountain.
Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis reported that Storch, of Coppell, suffered multiple injuries after falling backward, veering off the trail and hitting a tree.
At the time of the accident Storch was wearing a helmet. Her father described her as an “amazing athlete.”
