COVINA, CA– A man and his supporters attending a meeting of the Charter Oak Unified school board Thursday to protest his termination.  Mitch Stein, a former water polo coach claims he he was fired for being gay.  Stein was an assistant coach for the boy’s junior varsity water polo team when a parent discovered allegedly inappropriate photos on his Facebook and Myspace accounts and mailed the photos to the Charter Oak High Principal Kathleen Wiard.  One photo showed Stein posing with two drag queens and the other showed him about …

Boston, MA –Two dozen people were arrested for trespassing during a protest against Bank of America’s foreclosure practices at the bank’s offices in downtown Boston.  About 3,000 people joined the protest against Bank of America’s lending practices.  The event was an act of civil disobedience and police arrested protestors who entered the bank’s lobby and refused to leave.
The rally was organized by Right to the City Alliance and follows demonstrations in Manhattan, known as #OccupyWallStreet, which began 14 days ago to protest the influence of Wall Street money on politics. …

Bloomfield Township — Over the weekend Detroit Piston Ben Wallace was arrested for driving under the influence and a weapons offense.  Saturday evening Wallace, 37, was pulled over for driving erratically behind the wheel of a 2007 Cadillac Escalade.  His vehicle was searched and an unloaded pistol was found in a backpack in the passenger compartment.  Also, he was given a breathalyzer test which showed he had a blood alcohol count above the .08 level, the legal limit.

Boston, MA — A Massachusetts man was arrested and charged with plotting to damage or destroy the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol by using remote-controlled aircraft filled with plastic explosives.  Rezwan Ferdaus, 26, was arrested after an undercover operation in which he believed undercover FBI agents were recruiters for al Qaeda.  Ferdaus is a U.S. citizen and a physics graduate from Northeastern University in Boston.  He is also charged with attempting to provide support and resources to al Qaeda in order to carry out attacks on U.S. soldiers overseas.  Ferdaus …

Santa Rosa, CA –A patient who was discharged from Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital was found dead approximately 12 hours later near the southwestern corner of the hospital grounds.  Michael Torres, 49, was discovered around 8 a.m. on September 20.  He had been in the hospital for an undisclosed condition.  After he was discharged he was found in the hospital and asked to leave because the hospital was closed to the public at night.

Los Angeles, CA —On Tuesday opening statements began in the trial of Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson’s personal doctor.  Murray is accused of involuntary manslaughter because he allegedly gave Michael Jackson large amounts of a powerful anesthetic that caused his death.

Eugene, OR — After losing her baby during a home birth attended by two unlicensed midwives, a woman is pushing for a mandatory licensing law in Oregon.  Margarita Sheikh, 32, said that after eight days of labor and two days after her water broke, her son was born with no heartbeat.  The midwives did not have the skill or equipment necessary to resuscitate the baby.

The Bastrop County fires have destroyed more than 2,000 homes, according to an official with the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office. The massive fire has burned over 40,000 acres, including around 3,000 acres in Bastrop State Park, according to the Texas Forest Service.

BROCKTON  — Eight years after being involved in a drunken driving accident, a Massachusetts man is facing new charges.  In 2003, William Senne  hit Trooper Ellen Engelhardt after she pulled over in the breakdown lane to examine guardrail damage.  Witnesses told police that the driver was driving 90 miles per hour when he hit Engelhardt’s cruiser.  Engelhardt suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of the accident.  In 2005, Senne plead guilty to drunken driving and was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison.  Senne was 18 at the …
