Houston, TX —A Houston millionaire has adopted his adult girlfriend and set up a trust for her in order to keep some of his money safe.  John Goodman is facing criminal and civil charges because of a DUI accident in Florida that killed a man.  Two years ago, Goodman ran a stop sign when he was drunk and crashed into Scott Patrick Wilson’s Hyundai Sonata.  The Hyundai was pushed into a canal and Wilson was killed.  Wilson had just graduated from college.  The Wilson family is suing Goodman.  Goodman is …

Houston, TX —An intoxicated driver who struck and killed a bicyclist and then fled the scene was arrested in his home on Monday night.  Jerad Thomas was driving a friend’s cargo van when he hit a 53-year-old man who was riding his bike southbound on Jones Road near Fallbrook.  The bicyclist was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later.  Police were able to track the owner of the van because the license plate fell off at the scene.  The owner of the van had loaned the …

Greensburg, PA —A Pennsylvania woman will possibly do prison time for serving beer to teens at her son’s high school graduation party.  Three of the teens who were at the party were killed in a DUI car crash after leaving the party.  Susan Sanders-Watt, 60, pleaded guilty to four counts of corruption of minors and reckless endangerment and 17 citations of serving alcohol to minors. Los Angeles, CA –DUI checkpoints resulted in over 1500 arrests for alleged driving under the influence in Los Angeles County from Dec. 16 to Dec. 25.  Last year during the same time period 1,260 people were arrested.  Over 100 law enforcement agencies had a part in the effort to decrease DUI accidents.  More checkpoints are planned for New Year’s weekend.

Washington D.C. — The head of the Federal Aviation Administration was arrested for drunk driving on Saturday night.  Jerome Randolph Babbitt, 65, has been placed on administrative leave and DOT officials are reviewing his employment status with their attorneys.  Babbitt was driving on the wrong side of Old Lee Highway when he was pulled over.  He was alone in his car and was about nine miles from his home.  He was not involved in any accident.  Police took him to the adult detention center, and he was charged and later …

Irvine, CA –A new ordinance passed by the Irvine City Council this week fines party hosts up to $750 for the first warning, up to $1500 fro the second warning within a 12-month period and up to $3,000 for further warnings if you serve alcohol to minors.  Any person who makes alcohol available and/or permits the consumption of alcohol by an underage person at a gathering or event held on private property could be fined.  Authorities are hoping this ordinance will cut down on DUIs.  About 8% …

New Jersey –Police arrested and charged a school bus driver with 25 counts of driving under the influence with a minor.  Some middle school students who were on the bus called their parents from their cell phones saying that the bus driver was swerving and falling asleep behind the wheel.  The parents called police and Westampton Middle School officials.  The driver, Carole Crockett, 46, was found picking up kids at another South Jersey middle school.  Crockett’s blood alcohol level was .25, more than three times the legal limit.  She was …

Vista, CA – Julianne Elyse Thomson, 23, has a preliminary hearing on Wednesday to determine if she will be tried for driving drunk and fatally hitting a man riding his bike to work.  Thomson was driving her Ford F-150 truck near El Camino Real and Cassia Street on July 27 around 9:45 p.m. when she allegedly struck Arthur John Jacobs, 64, of Vista, who was on his way to work at a local hotel.  After Jacobs was hit, Thomson went up a curb and into some bushes, and then …
