Housekeeper Charged With Felony Theft

Houston, TX – A housekeeper is accused of stealing jewelry from nine of the homes that she worked in over the past few years. Mary Jones Smith, 57, is charged with aggregate felony theft. She has allegedly stolen over $350,000 worth of jewelry from her clients in the Champions area of north Harris County. In four of those cases, the clients were suffering life-threatening diseases and Smith was a caregiver. She sold the jewelry to local pawn shops and gold buyers. Dr. Conrad Murray Guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter

Los Angeles, CA — The jury found Dr. Conrad Murray guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson on Monday. The doctor who is 58-years-old could be sentenced to up to four years in prison and could possibly lose his medical license. It took the jurors less than nine hours of deliberation to reach the decision. Dr. Murray was immediately remanded into custody. Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 of an overdose of propofol, which is normally given in a hospital during surgery, not as a sleep aid. The coroner ruled that the case was a homicide and Dr. Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter because he administered the drug without adequate safeguards. The verdict came after nearly 50 witnesses, 22 days of testimony and less than two days of deliberation by a jury of seven men and five women. The trial had focused primarily on whether Dr. Murray was guilty of abdicating his duty or of acting with reckless criminal negligence, directly causing his patient’s death.

Minnesota Police Seek Suspects in Vehicle Theft

Police in the Champlin, MN area are looking for two suspects who broke into a vehicle at the Cub Foods near HWY 169.
The suspects reportedly stole several items including a firearm before driving away in a dark colored sedan.

3 Stabbed By Student At California High School

South Gate, CA — A male student stabbed at least two fellow students and a dean at a Los Angeles-area high school Friday. During lunchtime at South East High School in South Gate, a fight broke out between a boy and a girl. The boy stabbed the girl with a sharp object and when another student and a dean came to break up the fight, they were also stabbed. The female student suffered serious wounds, but is in stable condition. The others had non-life-threatening injuries. The assailant was uninjured and was arrested. A motive for the fight was unclear.

Police and firefighters responded to the call and the school was placed on lock down. Counselors were available for students and parents to talk to.

Involuntary Manslaughter Trial of Michael Jackson’s Doctor Begins

Los Angeles, CA —On Tuesday opening statements began in the trial of Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson’s personal doctor. Murray is accused of involuntary manslaughter because he allegedly gave Michael Jackson large amounts of a powerful anesthetic that caused his death.

“The acts and the omissions of Michael Jackson’s personal doctor, Conrad Murray, directly led to his premature death at age 50,” Deputy District Attorney David Walgren of Los Angeles County said in his opening statement. Also Dr. Murray acted with gross negligence and incompetence in a variety of ways. The trial is expected to last about five weeks and it will center on the doctor’s behavior in the hours before and after Mr. Jackson’s death. Dr.Murray was paid $150,000 a month by Michael Jackson.

Dr. Murray’s lawyers said in the opening statements for the defense that Michael Jackson himself swallowed an extra dose of the anesthetic, propofol, while the doctor was in the restroom. They said that Michael depended on the drug to sleep.

Before his death Michael Jackson was rehearsing for “This Is It,” a series of 50 sold-out concerts in London.

Former LAUSD Cop Convicted

Los Angeles — Jeff Stenroos was found guilty of four felonies –insurance fraud, workers’ compensation fraud, preparing false documentary evidence and planting false evidence on Monday. He was also found guilty of falsely reporting an emergency, a misdemeanor. He will sentenced on December 14.

On January 19 Stenroos lied about being shot near El Camino Real High School in the San Fernando Valley. His lie resulted in a 10-hour lockdown and a manhunt for a shooter who didn’t exist.

LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy released a statement Monday: “Mr. Stenroos is a disgrace to the Los Angeles School Police Department, and this District. Since he has been found guilty of five of six counts in a court of law, our legal team can proceed more quickly with the required processes needed to end the officer’s employment.”

Clemens Case Set For April 17

Washington –A new start date of April 17 was set by a U.S. district court judge for the trial of former Major League pitcher Roger Clemens. Clemens is accused of lying to Congress during their investigation into the use of steroids in professional baseball.

Clemens first case in which he was charged with one count of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury was declared a mistrial in July after inadmissible evidence was shown in court. A video clip of a televised congressional hearing from 2008 in which a congressman referenced an affidavit from Laura Pettitte was the inadmissible evidence.

Clemen’s defense attorneys wanted the charges that stem from Clemens’ 2008 testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, during which he denied using anabolic steroids to be dismissed.

Clemens has continually denied using performance-enhancing drugs during his professional baseball career.

Casey Anthony’s Probation Appeal Denied

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Casey Anthony’s appeal of her year probation for check fraud was denied by the judge on Tuesday. Anthony’s attorney cited double- jeopardy because Anthony was visited by a probation officer while she was in jail on the charges that she murdered her daughter.

The judge said that she always intended for Anthony to serve her probation when her murder trial was finished. Judge Belvin Perry said Anthony must report for probation by Friday at noon. Anthony must submit to monthly check-ins with a probation officer and random searches of her residence. She will also be required to have a job.

It is possible for Anthony to serve probation in another state, but the other state would have to approve the request. One of Anthony and her attorney’s concerns was her safety if she was to stay in Florida.
