Aaron Vargas, 32, claims that his Boy Scout leader Darrell McNeill started molesting him when he was 11-years-old and that he and what happened emotionally tormented him as an adult. So on the night of February 8, 2009 Aaron Vargas drove to McNeill’s house and shot him right in front of his wife.

Vargas has now pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter with the use of a gun and now waits to see what sentence he will receive for the crime; it could be anywhere from 10 years down to probation. He was to stand trial for first-degree murder next week. Vargas’ sentence decision will come on April 20.

Who is Darrell McNeill?

Darrell McNeill was a family friend of the Vargas family and was former Boy Scout leader and local businessman in Fort Bragg. However, other men in the community support Vargas’ actions and say that McNeill used his position as Boy Scout leader to take the boys on hikes and camping trips, give them alcohol and drugs, and molest them.

Vargas’ family has been diligent about raising awareness of child sexual abuse since Aaron Vargas’ arrest.

Mendocino County Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Norman said that four people have lodged reports against McNeill for sexual abuse and that was enough to strike a plea deal for Vargas.

McNeill’s wife said that although she could not condone what Arron Vargas did, she did understand it and thinks he should serve some time for his crime, but not much. She said she had no reason to doubt Aaron’s claim of abuse.

Todd Rowan, another molestation victim, claims McNeill molested him when he was 15 and continued until he was 19. He said McNeill would give him pot and beer and take advantage of the fact that he was a loner kid with few friends. He said that what McNeill did to him drove him to drugs and repeated suicide attempts.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said Wesley, 43, set rules and told students not to punch each other in the face to avoid obvious signs of injury.

“Wesley not only allowed the fights to take place but also encouraged them by setting ground rules, including time limits,” Whitmore said. “He directed the minors where to fight in the room.”

Authorities reported Wesley was arrested at a home in the San Fernando Valley.  He was arrested on six counts of felony child endangerment stemming from the Aug. 8, 2008 altercations.

It was  unknown if Wesley had hired an attorney. He told the Los Angeles Times before his arrest that he knew nothing about any fights during classes.

Wesley was being held in lieu of $600,000 bail.

Carl Remington, the county’s interim chief probation officer said, “It was something that never should have happened.”  Videotape was reviewed by officials and there had been five fights in Wesley’s classroom during the day.

A discussion was being lead by Wesley when two students from rival gangs got into an argument, Whitmore said. Wesley encouraged them to settle their dispute physically.

“His job was to create a safe environment,” Whitmore said. “What we believe is that he was doing the opposite.”

Spokeswoman Margo Minecki said Wesley had worked for less than two years as a substitute teacher at the Los Angeles County Office of Education.  He resigned Sept. 29, 2008.

Ryan Renfroe of Columbus is in police custody and is facing double murder charges as an adult.

The bodies of Greg and Marguerite Gough were found inside their home in Lovett Tuesday night.

Authorities found a 1987 Chevrolet Camaro belonging to the Gough’s abandoned and wrecked in a ditch in southern Jennings County. When police were towing the car, a witness stopped and told police that they had helped the driver of the vehicle and took him to a truck stop.

Police found the driver, Renfroe, at a Seymour truck stop and questioned him about the owner of the car. He was then taken into custody.

The police feared something might have happened to the Gough’s because they also found a handgun in Renfroe’s possession. When authorities arrived at the Gough’s home, they discovered that the couple had been killed.

Investigators are still trying to determine the motive of the slayings.

According to police, Alberto Deleon is wanted in the death of Ray Villasenor, 18. Mr. Villasenor was shot on the evening of Oct. 13 during an argument following a car accident in near South Beacon Street, police said. A second person was also wounded in the shooting, police said.

Siobhan L. Russell was found stabbed to death in the downstairs room at her boyfriend’s home.

Reports say the two were arguing over their relationship when the teen stabbed Russell in her upper body.

The boyfriend’s father was at the house when the incident happened and called the police.

He is being charged as a juvenile and his name was not released.

Police arrested 47-year old Troy Dale West for kicking and punching Army reservist Tawshawnea Hill at the Cracker Barrel in Morrow, Georgia.

Reports say 35-year old Hill was entering the restaurant with her 7-year old daughter when West swung the door really hard while walking out of the establishment. Hill told the man to be careful not to hit her daughter with the door.

“The man slung open the door pretty hard and fast and I had to push my daughter out of the way. I turned to the man and I just said, ‘Excuse me sir, you need to watch yourself you almost hit my daughter in the face.’ And from there it just went downhill,” said Hill.

The 250 pound West was angered and was heard yelling out racial slurs to the woman and started to beat her in front of her 7-year old daughter. He threw her to the ground and hit her in the head with his fists and feet. Hill kept telling West that she was an Army person.

West is arrested and charged with charges of cruelty to children, battery and disorderly conduct. He is out of jail after posting a $12,150 bond.

The FBI has conducted a preliminary investigation on the assault and is looking if the beating was racially motivated.

According to police, Seth Scarminach got into an argument with the 14-year old suspect at the weekend party they attended.

Scarminach of Ojai was stabbed in the driveway of a house in the 2400 block of Maricopa Highway. He died of stab wounds to his neck and chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene after rescue responders failed to revive him.

Reports reveal the suspect’s name as Alex Medina. Alex was arrested at his home Sunday night and remains in Juvenile hall. Police are investigating a possible connection to a street gang.

Police also arrested 21-year old Gabriel Arellano of Oak View in connection to the incident. He remains in custody on $110,000 bail.

Ford said he thought the sex with the 23-year-old woman was consensual. However, prosecutors said the woman woke up to find Ford assaulting her, and that Ford called her later to apologize.

Ford’s sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 4.

47-year old Phibbie Robinson was arrested for disorderly conduct after she became angry and started shouting inside the Cleveland County Courthouse Thursday morning.

Robinson went to the courthouse with her husband, who was bound on a wheelchair, and demanded to speak to district attorney Greg Mashburn.

Reports say that Robinson got confrontational when an investigator tried to speak with her regarding her problem.

Robinson was then warned to calm down or she will be arrested for disorderly conduct. She told them to go ahead and arrest her.

She also told authorities that she was carrying a gun inside her purse. Deputies found a Glock 9 mm with a full magazine.

Mashburn said that only law enforcement officers are allowed to carry weapons inside a county building.

Robinson was booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center. Her bond was set to $7,000.
