New Brunswick officials are warning boaters to take extra care and caution in the water this weekend due to several previous boating related deaths this year.
133 people died last year in Canada from boating accidents and approximately 6,000 people have suffered non-fatal injuries, says BOATsmart! Canada, which is the officially recognized boater licensine body. So far there have been three in New Brunswich this year by RCMP Sgt. Mark Bridges.

State authorities are planning on cracking down on drunk and high boat operators during the Fourth of July weekend.
The Illinois Department of Natural resources Conservation Police have improved patrol techniques and increased enforcement on board for the state’s waterways.
“We want people to enjoy their time on the water, but being safe and responsible should always be a boater’s top priority,” said the department’s Office of Law Enforcement Chief Rafael Gutierrez. “Alcohol use is one of the leading causes of fatal boating accidents in Illinois and across the country.”

Two people have died over the weekend over two separate boating accidents in Cecil County waters.
The deaths happened one on Friday and one on Saturday and were the 10th and 11th boating deaths in Maryland this year.
The first accident happened just before 8:30 p.m. on Friday night in Chesapeake City, Maryland. Resources say Robert Baron, 27, fell into the water as he attempted to jump from a boat to the pier of an Inn.
Two of his shipmates jumped into the water but no one could rescue him.

One teenager was killed in a canoeing accident in Illinois on Tuesday afternoon. Police continue to investigate the incident involving four teenagers. 17-year-old Mitchel Krause was transported to Anthony’s Trauma Center and was pronounced dead after the accident.
None of the victims were wearing any sort of life jacket, even though it’s an Illinois state law that requires floatation devices, or life jackets, to be on board of a boat per occupant.

Police hold three people on Saturday as they begin investigation on the sinking of a tourist boat which killed 16 people.

Sheriff Deputies continue looking for the father of a little girl that was pronounced dead after a boating accident in Washington County, Idaho.

Three different boating accidents over the weekend leave two people seriously injured.
A woman was hurt Saturday after being cut by the propeller of a boat. She was apparently airlifted to the nearest hospital, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
FWC officers also say another woman that was boating was ejected perhaps due to the wave action. The woman suffers from a broken femur and was taken by ambulance to Bell High School where she was flown via helicopter to Shands at the University of Florida.

A boating operator and his son have been cited with reckless operation for the death of two Middleburg High School students.
49 year old Ted Hanner was operating his 1985 Baja bass boat when he left the boats controlling to go pump the fuel bulb on the other side. The boat was running ragged while Hanner was trying to add fuel to the motor.
