Eight Indiana Hospital Employees Fired For Refusing Flu Shot

Eight Indiana Hospital Employees Fired For Refusing Flu Shot

Indiana –Eight employees including three veteran nursed have been fired from a hospital in Indiana for refusing a mandatory flu shot.  Ethel Hoover, who has been at Indiana University Health Goshen Hospital for 22 years, was one of the nurses fired.  She claims that it is her body, and she has a right to refuse the vaccine.  The hospital made the flu vaccine mandatory after concerns about the spread of influenza.  Hoover filed two medical exemptions, a religious exemption and two appeals, but all were denied.  The deadline to get the vaccine was Dec. 15.  Hoover was terminated on Dec. 21.  Hoover has hired attorney Alan Phillips who has specialized in fighting for employee’s rights to get out of mandated flu shots.  He claims that his client has the right to refuse the shot under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  This will be a battle of patient’s rights versus employee rights.  If you believe you have been wrongfully terminated from your job, contact an Indiana wrongful termination attorney to review your case.
