New York –Seven people were injured when a 200-foot crane collapsed onto a building at a construction site near the East River waterfront on Wednesday. Around 2:00 p.m., cables snapped and the crane fell onto the scaffolding around a residential building that is under construction. Three people had to be extricated from under the fallen machinery, but none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. The cause of the collapse is under investigation by the city’s Department of Building. The building under construction is a 25-story apartment building under contract by TF Cornerstone.
