San Diego, CA –A settlement of $11.4 million has been reached between a the drug company, Victory Pharma Inc., and the federal government. The company allegedly paid kickbacks to doctors in an effort to persuade them to prescribe their painkillers and muscle relaxants. Victory Pharma Inc. was accused of giving doctors tickets to sports events, concerts and plays, spa outings, golf and ski outings, dinners at expensive restaurants, and even a trip to a strip club. In exchange, the doctors wrote prescriptions for patients who were covered by Medicare, Tricare, and other federal programs. The company did not admit to any wrongdoing in the settlement, but wanted to avoid a court trial. A former salesman for Victory Pharma Inc. was the whistleblower, and he will receive part of the settlement.
