Los Angeles, CA –According to the California Highway Patrol, arrests and fatalities due to drunk driving increased in 2012 compared to 2011. There were 1,170 people arrested for DUI between Dec. 21 and Dec. 25 this year, and 980 DUI arrests in the same time period last year. Also, there were 39 fatalities attributed to drunk driving in the same five day period this year, and only 14 in 2011. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, The CHP arrested more than 800 people on suspicion of drunk driving and there were 17 fatalities from traffic accidents. There are more alcohol-related accidents during the holidays than any other time of year. Consequently, the efforts to get drivers who have been drinking off the streets increases. If you are planning on have a few drinks at a holiday party, plan an alternate means of getting home rather than driving yourself. It is not worth the risk to you or to others.
