Meriden, Conn. –The first lawsuit to result from the Connecticut school shooting was filed on behalf of a 6-year-old girl who survived. The suit claims that the student has sustained emotional and psychological trauma and injury as a result of hearing the gunman, Adam Lanza, yelling and shooting over the school intercom. The suit also contends that the State Board of Education, the Department of Education and the Education Commissioner failed to take appropriate steps to protect the students from “foreseeable harm,” failed to provide a “safe school setting, and failed to design “an effective student safety emergency response plan and protocol.” On Dec. 14, twenty children and six adults were shot at Sandy Hook Elementary School by Adam Lanza.
