4 bicyclists injured in hit and run
A group of cyclists in Charlotte, NC, were cycling on May 19, 2010 along St. Stephen’s Church Road in Cabarrus County when they were struck by an automobile. Police have located and arrested the man responsible for hitting the pack of bicyclists.
According to Highway Patrol troopers, 24-year-old Daniel Burton Wilson II, is the man responsible for hitting the six cyclists. Wilson was reportedly headed in the opposite direction when he hit several of them.
According to reports four cyclists were rushed to area hospitals by responding rescue teams for treatment. No report on the types of injuries had been released yet.
The driver of the vehicle, Wilson, turned himself in later during the day to officials. He was then charged with six counts of felony hit-and-run.
The bicyclists were a part of a cycling team called the Gary Fisher Subaru Team. The names and conditions of the cyclists were not disclosed.
North Carolina laws state that bicycles are considered to be vehicles and the y are required to ride “predictably and courteously” to keep traffic moving and to avoid accidents.
