Teacher Killed by Tree Branch

8 February 2010 No Comment

PHILADELPHIA – A woman was killed by a falling tree branch while jogging in a Philadelphia park Wednesday evening.

23-year old Katie Ladany of northern New Jersey was running on Forbidden Drive in in Fairmount Park at around 6:30 p.m. when the heavy tree branch fell and knocked her to the ground and killing her instantly.

A passerby called 911 and stayed with the victim until paramedics arrived at the scene.

Investigators say that it is possible that Ladany did not hear the 30-foot-long branch breaking off from the tree because she was listening to her ipod while jogging.

It is believed that the tree branch had come loose in the storms earlier this week.

Ladany was a high school teacher in Dobbins Career and Tech High School.
